BJP candidate’s brother joins CPI (M) , walks in procession in Boxanagar

It was difficult for BJP to find a suitable candidate for minority dominated Boxanagar assembly constituency in Sonamura subdivision. In 2018 the party had put up a highly acclaimed agricultural scientist late Baharul Islam Majumder but the man was comprehensively defeated by a margin of more than 8 thousand votes. Since then the BJP has never had a credible face in the constituency and , to worsen matters, there was no effort either to find an organizational footing.

This time the party has put up a rich businessman Tofazzal Hossain as candidate for the election but this has not gone down well with the electorate in Boxanagar. The displeasure of the dominant minority electorate in Boxanagar as well as that of Tofazzal’s family came to the fore yesterday as his elder brother Dilwar Hossain yesterday walked in a procession of the CPI (M) candidate in the constituency Shmsul Haq and sought votes for him before the bemused eyes of the people. There was no explanation about the incident either from Tofazzal Hossain or from the local unit of the BJP party. But people in Boxanagar have concluded that Tofazzal’s fate in the election is already sealed by this bizarre incident.
