Sporadic incidents of violence ignoring the Election Commission's slogan of Zero Violence

Incidents of political violence are being reported from various parts of the state ignoring the Election Commission’s slogan of Zero Violence. In the last 24 hours, at least two incidents of violence have been reported from Khowai and Fatihroy in which at least 16 people sustained injuries. Police claimed the situation is under control in both places but tension prevails.

The first incident has been reported from Telia Natun tilla area of Fatikroy where at least ten persons sustained injuries in a clash between the supporters of the BJP and CPI(M). The injured BJP supporters were shifted to Fatikroy hospital and the local MLA Sudhangshu Das went there to see them. The five persons of CPM supporters also were injured and were shifted to Kailasahar. CPI(M) candidate for Fatikroy Subrata Das and Congress president Birajit Sinha rushed to the hospital.

BJP alleged that the CPI(M) supporters attacked them when they were arranging decoration materials. However, the CPI(M) denied the allegation.

Another incident of clash between the BJP and CPM supporters was reported from Sonatala in Khowai in which six persons sustained injuries. It is alleged that the clash started when both sides were conducting a campaign in the same area.

Meanwhile, tension is prevailing in Joykatpur area of Hrishyamukh following allegations of destroying the election materials of BJP. It is alleged that the election office o BJP also was ransacked. As soon as the incident was reported a large number o BJP supporters assembled there creating tension. Police has been informed and situation is under control now.
