The deposed Trinamool president Subal Bhowmik who has set a record of sorts by switching allegiance to parties at regular intervals is now all set to rejoin the BJP within a short time. There is also a clear indication that he may be nominated as BJP candidate for the Banamalipur (No-9) assembly constituency. Sources close to Subal said that he has already had discussion with top BJP leaders in Delhi and they have agreed to nominate him for the Banamalipur assembly constituency in the upcoming elections.

Subal Bhowmik , once a die-hard Congressman, had joined the Trinamool in the late nineties but then returned to Congress and became MLA from Sonamura in 2008. Having lost the assembly election in 2013 he had formed his own party the ‘Tripura Gramin Vikash Congress’ and merged it with BJP where he had developed differences with former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb after losing the assembly election afresh from Sonamura in 2018. He had then left BJP and rejoined Congress to be candidate for loksabha election of 2019 which he lost and then deserted Congress to join Trinamool of which he became the state president. But after the civic polls and the four by-elections last year Subal was removed from the post of president and now he is all set to rejoin the BJP upon the party’s commitment that he will be nominated as candidate for assembly election from the Banamalipur (No-9) constituency.

Sources however said that even within BJP there are a number of contenders for nomination from the Banamalipur seat . Among the aspirants, BJP state president Rajiv Bhattacharjee and Niti Deb, consort of deposed chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb , are leading figures . How the BJP will accommodate Subal in this constituency won by Biplab Deb by a huge margin in 2018 is still not clear, sources added.
