In a bizarre incident, a 14-year-old boy Daniram Chakma committed suicide with a country-made gun the family generally uses for hunting various wild animals. The younger sister 9-year-old Laxmirani Chakma sustained injuries when tried to prevent him.
On Tuesday around 3.30 in the noon Daniram son of Surajoy Chakma of Jala Chandra Karbari Para under Manikpur police station of Longthori Valley sub-division took up the gun and started moving towards the jungle near his house. Younger sister Laxmirani suspected that something unusual is going to happen and followed him. Entering the jungle, Daniram aimed the gun at him when the sister tried to resist but failed. Daniram pressed the trigger and the bullet hit his chest and then the sister.
Daniram died on the spot and the sister sustained injuries. Receiving the information police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. Injured Laxmirai was shifted to Chawmanu hospital for treatment. The forensic experts also visited the spot and an investigation has been initiated. The reason for such an extreme step by the boy is not yet clear but suspected that a dispute with the parents over some issue might have provoked him to take such an extreme step.
