Foundation stone of the country’s first Buddhist University is going to be laid on November 29 at Manu Bankul in Sabroom of South Tripura District in presence of representatives from seven countries. All preparations are going on to make the foundation stone laying ceremony a memorable one.
It is learnt that the representatives from Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Korea, Japan and Cambodia will remain present during the foundation stone laying ceremony. The delegations will pay a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on the previous day.
Thirty-one countries mostly from South East Asia are funding the establishment of the university. It is expected that the university is going to be a centre of international attraction as a large number of students from various countries will come to study.
The State Assembly has already passed a bill for setting up the university centring the Dhamma Dipa School where over one thousand students will be able to study. Though a Buddhist University, all general courses will be there at the university.
