263 under-aged girls go missing in state in eight months of the current year

During the first eight months of the current year-that is, from January 1 to August 31-altogether 263 under-aged girls went missing from home across the state. Besides, 2705 women went missing during the same period. This information was furnished in the state assembly yesterday in a written reply to an ‘unstarred’ question , not meant for direct reply within the house.

The question in this regard was raised by Congress MLA Sudip Roybarman and CPI (M) MLA of Khowai Nirmal Biswas. The written reply stated that 242 under-aged girls and 2524 women had been recovered by police after their disappearance. In connection with the incidents of disappearance and abduction the police arrested 253 accused persons . Besides, another accused had been arrested in connection with the abduction of a grown-up woman, the reply said.
