In an attempt to restore their lost influence in the hills, the Tripura Upajati Ganmukti Parishad (GMP), the tribal wing of the CPI(M) has organized a rally in Khowai in presence of all its senior leaders of the sub-division. It was the first procession of the GMP in Khowai after four years since it lost power.
The procession led by Former Minister Aghor Debbarma, former Chief Executive Member of TTAADC Ranjit Debbarma, Former MLA Padma Kumar Debbarma started from the CPI(M) party office went in the office of the Sub-divisional Magistrate, and submitted a seven-point charter of demands. These include proper, roads, health and educational facilities in the hills etc.
The hills were always considered a stronghold for GMP and for long 25 years were the only power. In 2018 the party lost its influence when suffered defeat in the state assembly elections and subsequently the majority of tribals switched over to TIPRA Motha. Now it is to be seen how far their attempt to restore the lost glory works.
