The CRPF and TSR jawans and officers indirectly collaborated with the hoodlums and hooligans of BJP to sabotage a pre-permitted programme of the CPI (M) in Hapania area, paving the way for lagescale attack on a large number of CPI (M) supporters including a retrenched teacher Piyali Dhar. In protest against the massive terror attacks of BJP the CPI (M) leaders and workers later staged demonstration in front of the police headquarter for a few hours.
Sources in the CPI (M) said that the party had obtained permission in advance from police for a procession to be led by leader of the opposition Manik Sarkar and party secretary Jiten Chowdhury from Dukli divisional committee office of the party to AS Nagar police line . Accordingly all senioir leaders of the party and more than a thousand party workers and supporters had gathered in the Dukli divisional committee office in Hapania area .
But getting information of the programme in advance a large number of BJP miscreants nd mafia elements armed with clubs , stones and brick chips had gathered at the mouth of the by-pass road and in front of the international fair ground to attack the procession as and when it began. Having seen this the TSR and CRPF jawans posted there in large numbers under supervision of state police did not take any action to disperse the BJP mafias but, in stead , laid siege around the CPI (M) office to prevent the procession from coming out . Many CPI (M) supporters were attacked on their way to the party office and some vehicles in which they had been travelling were damaged by the armed BJP mafia elements. One retrenched 10,323 teacher Piyali Dhar was also physically manhandled and injured by the BJP hoodlums . She was later taken to GBP hospital for treatment.
Under compulsion the CPI (M) cancelled their programme and the security forces happily escorted senior leaders including Manik Sarkar, Jiten Chowdhury and others back to Agartala. Later the CPI (M) leaders and workers staged a protest demonstration in front of the police headquarter.. The CPI (M) strongly condemned the ‘fascist’ terror of the BJP in Tripura .
