The National Highway is gradually reopening after remaining closed for nearly a week as the weather condition has improved but still the movement of vehicles is to get momentum as the authorities liable to maintain the road are yet to take any initiative to repair the damages.
Official sources said the small vehicles that remained stranded had already crossed the damaged patch but the heavy vehicles are moving slowly to evade any further dislocation. The heavy vehicles especially tankers carrying petroleum products have mostly left for their destinations in the West, Sipahijala, Gomati, and Soth Districts.
The sources on National Highway no 8 said the road along the Atharamura hills is yet to improve and the vehicles are moving with risk. The District Administration and the police are regulating the movement of vehicles but the PWD is not yet seen on the roads.
