Tripura government’s resolve proclaimed in 2018 of making Tripura addiction free seems to be rebounding on the state with increasing seizures of contraband drugs and arrest of drug runners. In a clear sign of heightened drug running in Khowai subdivision police yesterday arrested two drug-runners identified as Nibas Roy (35) of Purba Ganki village and Kanu Nath Sharma (46) of motor stand area of the town. They were arrested from Tant Chaumuhuni by the subdivisional police officer (SDPO) Rajib Sutradhar . The police have registered NDPS cases against the nabbed persons in Khowai police station. The police party seized a large quantity of heroin tablets and cash from the nabbed youths.

In a separate incident the officer in charge of Rangamura police outpost Sumanta Bhattacharjee yesterday seized 12 kgs of ganza (cannabis) and 50 bottles of phensydyl and large quantity of cumin . But later local journalists of Sonamura discovered that more than three hundred KGs of ‘Ganza’ and other addictive materials and two motor bikes left behind by the smugglers had been discovered by police after chasing the smugglers.
