The CPI (M) state secretary and party central committee member Jiten Chowdhury has alleged that largescale rigging and booth capturing marred today’s polling in the Surma (SC) assembly constituency after 4-00 PM. “We tried to resist as much as possible and the election commission also tried its best but finally nothing worked after 4-00 PM in Surma which we had a fair chance of winning; this could happen because the role of police was extremely shady” said Jiten. He said that the ruling BJP had assembled large number of mafia elements from different parts of Dhalai and Unakoti districts to disrupt campaign and election today and they took over the booths after 4-00 PM. Still CPIM candidate will fairly win the Surma seat, Jiten said.

Jiten said that only redeeming indication today was that the people were waking up to the reality and have started resisting the goonery and thuggery of BJP. Jiten was however hopeful of a better showing in Jubaraj Nagar assembly constituency in Dharma Nagar and a victory.

Jiten complaint that BJP miscreants did not allow their agents some of the polling station in 6 Agartala and 8 Broadwali assembly constituencies. He hopes that left front will have good results in all the assembly constituencies in by poll.
