The overall polling percentage in today’s by-election to four assembly constituencies is likely to reach the figure of 85% finally as 81% of votes have been recorded till 5-30 PM, scheduled deadline for the end of the polling today, as notified by the election commission. The chief electoral officer Kiran Gitte said that as per feedback that reached him 81% overall voting had been recorded till 5-30 PM but even after that polling is on in some booths and final percentage is likely to reach 85% overall. He said that except some stray incidents the election today was peaceful and all the allegations are being looked into by the election commission.

But the Trinamool state president and former MLA Subal Bhowmik said that today’s election was worse than what had happened in the statewide civic polls in December last year. “The election commission tried to make election smooth and fair but failed mainly because of the inert and shameful role of state police that acted at the behest of the ruling BJP; in most of the booths genuine voters were prevented from coming to booths for voting though in certain cases people on their own caught the fake voters of BJP as is evident from video clips circulating in the social media” said Subal. He added that BJP had brought large number of anti-social elements and hooligans from Belonia, Sabroom, Bishalgarh , Jirania, Mohanpur and other places and put white bands around their wrist so that they could gain illegal and immoral advantage from the officials running the election . Some of them were caught red-handed also, he said .
