The voting for the by-elections to 8-Town Bardowali and 6-Agartala assembly constituencies began quietly today but as the day progressed stray incidents of violence have been reported. Targeting mainly the 6-Agartala constituency being contested by former minister Sudip Roybarman the imported mafia elements wreaked havoc in many areas. Sources said, realizing imminent defeat the mafia elements of the ruling party stabbed a police employee, a voter of 6-Agartala, in Abhay Nagar area for proceeding to polling centre. While being taken to hospital Samir said that he had identified all the attackers and would file a FIR.

Apart from this, many voters could not vote in Indra Nagar school polling centre, Kunjaban Township school, Beterban and several other areas because of the naked attacks , threats and intimidation made by the mafia elements imported from Jirania, Mohanpur and Khayerpur. The promised security forces were nowhere in sight to save the voters and drive away the hoodlums and hooligans brought on promises of payment by the vote-managers of the ruling party. Last night the mafia elements , allegedly organized by the local councillor of AMC had tried to threaten the minority voters in Beterban area but were forced to flee in the face of organized resistance.

The polling in 8-Town Bardowali was better but still incidents of stray threats and intimidation abounded. According to eye-witness accounts at least twenty families of voters in Madhya Para and Unnayan Sangha areas were prevented from voting while the imported mafia elements continue to threaten voters in Arabinda Sangha area near A.D.Nagar school. However, near all the booths the imported mafia elements have been moving without being able to enter or go near a number of booths for fear of central security forces who have not been doing duties evenly everywhere. The local CPI (M) leader in Bardowali Srijan Deb was abused and threatened while he was coming home after casting his vote in Bardowali school by the imported mafia elements of BJP.

Meanwhile, polling in Madhya Mendi school under Surma constituency has remained suspended following snags developed in a EVM. Besides, the Trinamool candidate in Surma , Arjun Nama-Shudra and his workers were injured last night in an attack by the imported mafia elements of BJP.
