It has been alleged that some miscreants have created a reign of terror by creating a climate of fear among voters in Surma and Yuvrajnagar Assembly constituencies, including two assembly constituencies in the capital Agartala, on the eve of by-elections in the state. Allegations have been made by all political parties, including the Congress, the CPIM and the Trinamool Congress, that some bikers have been threatening voters in every constituency till late at night yesterday to prevent them from going to the polls in the morning. Two bombs were hurled at Rohit Miah's house in the capital Agartala. No one was injured, but the loud noise caused panic among the people in the middle of the night. When the locals came out of the house and formed a resistance, the miscreants later fled. The incident was immediately reported to the police. But police arrived at the scene an hour late. The police came and instructed the locals to go home without trying to gather any information from the locals about the culprits. This caused tension when the angry locals called the police as ‘BJP-brokers’.
It is reported that the same bike force had earlier attacked the house of Dulal Debnath in Nayaniyamura. His house and shop were vandalized. In addition, the Trinamool Congress has been accused of attacking on their Surma candidate Arjun Das last night.
