The Joint Movement Committee (JMC) spearheading the movement of hapless 10,323 teachers , 132 of them have already died , hope for a positive initiative on the part of the new chief minister Dr Manik Saha to restore their jobs lost because of misinterpretation of court order and ignorance and callousness of the education department. Sources among the retrenched teachers said that they will seek an appointment with the new chief minister and are preparing a detailed note showing how they had been victims of a gross miscarriage of justice and misinterpretation of the court order.

Sources said that a large number of replies to retrenched teaches on their RTI by the supreme court prove clearly that individual notices making party had been issued to only 462 teachers against whom cases had been filed. It means that jobs of only 462 teachers had been terminated but the state government retrenched all 10,323 teachers without issuing any individual termination notices. “This was grossly illegal and , moreover, in the original order of the high court on May 7 2014 it was clearly stated in Para-127 that the order would have prospective effect and jobs of teachers whose appointments had been challenged on ground of recruitment rules would be terminated; this number was only 56/59 but nobody considered the contents of this para” said sources in JMC. They said that the state government can restore the jobs only by issuing a corrigendum or by a gazette notification. All these will be brought to the notice of the new chief minister seeking the desired relief.
