The Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Ministry of Civil Aviation, General (Retd.) Vijay Kumar Singh on Monday reviewed the ongoing construction works at the National Highway-8 portion of Ambassa and held detailed discussion with all concerned authorities to expedite the works.

General (Retd.) Vijay Kumar Singh, who arrived in the state capital on Sunday for a three day state visit, on Monday arrived at Ambassa with MP Rebati Tripura and visited the Chamlacherra area of NH-8, where he physically inspected the construction works. Singh also reviewed all developmental activities of the NH and enquired about the progress of works.

Later, in the afternoon General (Retd.) Vijay Kumar Singh attended a high level meet with all top officials and all MLAs of the Dhalai district at the conference hall of district administration, where District Magistrate (DM) Mayur Motilal was also present.

Sources said that during the meeting Singh had elaborate discussion over the future planning of central government on construction developmental works in the district, specially the two-lane works of NH.

Later, speaking with media Singh said that due incessant rain in parts of Northeast and in different portions of NH-8, the construction works are getting delayed, but he hoped that the renovation works of the national highway will get its speed with stopping of rain. He said that all the authorities were instructed to complete all pending works related to development of NH should be completed in time.

In the afternoon Singh also visited different areas of Longtaria Valley subdivision of Dhalai district along with MP Rebati Tripura and monitored different central sponsored projects including construction of road and highways.

He also said that all pending works of NH-8 in the district will be completed by January next and also hoped that traffic movements in NH-8 in the portion of Assam and Meghalaya will not further hampered the movements of vehicles as restoration works has almost completed after damages due to torrential rain, lashed parts of Northeast disrupting state’s road and rail communications triggering fear of a crisis of essential commodities. After massive damages of roads in a few portions of national highway-8 and cut off of rail link, speedy repairing and construction works are going on in different areas of NH .

Sources said that V K Singh will also monitor these construction works in neighbouring states.

It may be recalled here that the visit of the union minister of Road Transport and Highways is assumed very significant as Tripura has been cut off from the railway link after a massive landslide in Haflong area of Assam since the past one week, which will take at least three months for restoration of damaged rail tracks.
