Three CPI (M) workers assaulted and injured in Khowai, demonstration held in front of police station

Within twenty four hours of former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb’s provocative speech in Khowai, three CPI (M) workers were attacked and injured in Khowai yesterday. Three CPI (M) workers were attacked and injured in as many places in different parts of Khowai town and its outskirts on Sunday. Sources from Khowai said that on Sunday morning Asim Das, a member of Singicherra local committee of the party as well as DYFI state committee member, was injured and left bleeding by the BJP miscreants.

On the same day Swapan Debnath , a peasant leader and former chief of Jambura panchayat, was returning home after marketing in Subhas Park market. He was waylaid near the Khowai higher secondary school and beaten up with bamboo poles by the BJP miscreants around 7-00 AM. He managed to go home by his motor bike with great difficulty and then reached Khowai hospital for treatment. In the third incident of assault Nikhil Deb, a member of the party’s Khowai local committee and a ‘Khshet Majur Union’ leader, was returning home to Singicherra from Ganki by his motor bike . He was ambushed at the jeep stand near the CNG station and beaten up severely by BJP miscreants . He managed to flee the area and reach hospital.

The series of attacks on BJP workers created a massive commotion all over Khowai and a large number of CPI (M) workers and supporters assembled in front of the Khowai police station and launched a demonstration programme against police inaction and arrest of the BJP miscreants responsible for the series of attacks. The CPI (M) state secretary and former minister Jiten Chowdhury strongly condemned the goonery of BJP miscreants and held the provocative speech of Biplab Kumar Deb on last Saturday responsible for this. “Having lost power Biplab has become desperate and is trying to create fresh trouble in the state but this will not work” said Jiten.
