In a stunning development in state politics the chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb has today tendered his resignation to the governor Satyadeo Narayan Arya in the governor’s house at 4-10 PM. The officers in governor’s house are preparing papers of acceptance of the resignation letters. A meeting of the BJP legislature party has begun in the official residence of the outgoing chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb to elect a new chief minister. Since the governor is ill the swearing in of the new ministry may not take place today but will happen tomorrow. Sources in BJP said that either Pratima Bhowmik or deputy chief minister Jishnu Debbarma is likely to be the chief minister but Jishnu Debbarma stands a better chance to don the mantle because the BJP needs to strengthen the tribal base in the face of a formidable onslaught from the ‘Tipra Motha’. Till the election of a new leader the governor will remain in charge of the administration.
Sources said that Biplab Deb had recently been summoned to Delhi by the central leadership and he also had held discussion with the national president J.P.Nadda and met with union home minister Amit Shah to greet him . But he was told about the decision at the national level and directed to tender his resignation . This morning Biplab , accompanied by senior BJP leaders from Delhi Bhupendra Yadav, Benod Sonkar, Ajay Jambwal and Benod Kawde , arrived here from Delhi and Biplab alone called at the governor in Raj Bhawan and handed over his resignation.
Meanwhile, the outgoing chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb has reiterated his complete faith in the party’s central leadership . “I have been a worker of the party since my early youth and I will continue to work for the party till the end; I am even prepared to work as a ‘Prishtha Pramukh’ if assigned the job” said Biplab to media persons.
