As the internal rift among the rank and folders of ruling alliance Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), which has came to the fore after the extended state conference of the party and announcement of new state committee by dissolving present state committee and its president Mevar Kumar Jamatia terming him as “illegal”, Jamatia threaten for legal action against the new committee constituted on Thursday led by Revenue Minister N C Debbarma.

As the split is now wide open, Tribal Welfare Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia addressing a press conference here at his official residence on Thursday evening said that the party functioning is going on democratically and systematically after he was elected as state president on April 4th, 2022 last. But, after one month what is wrong going on as he cannot imagine division politics by a section of party leaders.

“What happened on Thursday is very unfortunate and I will not say anything as the public is above all and they are watching everything,”, said Jamatia and added that public opinion is above all in democracy and people of the state will support me.

People of the state are shocked and stunned seeing the division of the party, which is continuing its movements for statehood demand, said Jamatia and added that those who are following the constitution will definitely win and real facts should be published not the fake messages.

Over the question of declaration of his president ship as ‘illegal’ by the NC Debbarma after the extended state conference and announcement of new state committee and new advisory committee, Mevar said that now time has come for correction and he will seek opinion of advisory board and senior members of the party to resolve the dispute. “If necessary we will take legal action after discussion with our lawyer team,” said Jamatia and added that let the court decide who is original and who are the duplicates.

Reiterated that he is still the state president of IPFT legally as he was elected for the post by the party leaders democratically and castigated the alleged dubious role of some senior leaders, who are trying to divide the party.

NC Debbarma’s statement sparked massive reaction across the state as the new state committee was formed in his presence on April 3, 2022 last and Debbarma was given the post of advisory committee chairman. But, within months Debbarma revolted against the present state committee in association with some MLAs and top leaders of the IPFT.

While, Mevar Kumar Jamatia also alleged that the behavior of NC Debbarma is very unfortunate. On April 03, an election was conducted in his presence. People from all the 33 divisional committees attended the state conference and exercised their voting rights and elected him as president of the party.
