The Tripura unit of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on Thursday organized a mass deputation in Agartala in support of the charter of demands for transport workers.
Hundreds of CITU workers participated in the rally, which passes various thoroughfares of Agartala city and submitted a memorandum before the principal secretary of the Transport department.
While addressing the gathering the state president of CITU and former Minister Manik Dey highlighting their 13 point charter of demands said that prices of petrol, diesel and CNG are beyond the reach of general transport workers and they are now facing severe hardship to maintain their livelihood.
About 10 crore people of the country are involved with transportation business and protect their livelihood; the government should immediately rollback the high prices of petrol and diesel, said Dey.
He said that not only the prices of fuel, the processes of vehicle accessories are also beyond the reach and transport workers are facing troubles to continue their business, which are at the verge of collapse.
Castigating the rule of the Union government, Dey claimed that working classes are facing double attacks from the Modi government as inflation reached its peak and high fuel prices make the lives of common people miserable.
Mentioning their demands, Dey also said that when the entire country is going against the meter system in auto-rickshaw, the state government implemented the system, which virtually collapsed passenger transportation system due to high fare in meter auto.
