Orgy of drinking and addiction to drugs seem to be overpowering the young boys and girls of Tripura despite bluster and rhetoric of the state government. A telling example of this was found this morning in the Gokulpur railway bridge area under Bishalgarh subdivision wherefrom the unconscious bodies of a young couple Rakesh Debnath (26) and Sumitra Debnath were recovered by Fire Brigade personnel. While Sumitra was admitted to Bishalgarh subdivisional hospital Rakesh had to be referred to GBP hospital, Agartala in a serious condition for better treatment. The motor bike on which the duo had been travelling was recovered from the spot of accident and kept in Bishalgarh police station.

Police sources said that the young boy and girl had left Agartala last night and were heading for Sumitra's home in Tepania area of Udaipur on Rakesh's motor bike at high speed. Both were in heavily drunken condition and as they reached the Gokulpur railway bridge area in Bishalgarh the motor bike skidded off the road and overturned and the duo fell nearby in unconscious condition. This morning a group of morning walkers came across the two unconscious bodies as well as the motor bike and , realizing what had happened, informed the Fire Brigade authority and police.

Arriving on the spot quickly the Fire Brigade authority evacuated the unconscious bodies to Bishalgarh hospital from where Rakesh was referred to GBP hospital , Agartala. Sources said that the families of both Rakesh and Sumitra have been informed and the accident had taken place because of excessive drinking.
