With the countrywide Covid situation worsening fast , there is virtual alarm at all levels of society including the state governments and Centre. Till last night altogether 1,94,720 people had been reported afflicted across the country while 422 deaths had been recorded. In Tripura as many as 783 people had been reported afflicted even though preventive measures are being taken by the state government to preempt any major outbreak . The worries of the government have deepened by the fact that the Omicron variant of Covid is extremely infectious though the fatality rate is relatively low.
In view of the rapidly deteriorating situation all over the country the union health secretary Rajesh Bhusan has cautioned all the state governments including Tripura and all the union territories to take all precautionary measures to prevent any major outbreak of Covid, specially in its Omicron variant . Bushan has asked the governments of all states and union territories to take appropriate action to put in place larger number of beds, uninterrupted oxygen supply facilities, ICUs and other essential medicines and equipments needed for treatment of Covid patients. He has pointed out that unpreparedness on the part of existing health infrastructure had resulted in a large number of deaths across the country in the second wave of Covid in its delta variant last year. Rajesh Bhusan has also informed the state and union territory governments that Centre is fully prepared to stand by the states during the crisis as and when it erupts but advised the governments to remain fully prepared.
However, the chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and information minister Sushanta Chowdhury have already declared the preparedness of the state government in coping with any situation that may be spawned by largescale outbreak of Covid for the third time in the state. (Tripurainfo)
