Tripura Human Rights Commission sent notice to DGP for harassing 4 LGBT members

The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has registered a case of physical and mental harassment after four LGBT members were called to the West Women's Police Station for questioning  on the night of January 8.

According to a source in the commission, the newly appointed chairperson of the human rights commission, retired Justice SC Das, sent a  notice  to  the DGP of the police V S Yadav to send his reply.

Asked about this, SC Das, chairperson of the state human rights commission, said today that the state human rights commission had taken up the case on its own after seeing the news in various media. The commission will summon all police personnel, journalists and victims of harassment, if necessary. The state's human rights commission will take necessary legal action against the culprits if anyone found guilty  after detailed information is available. It is alleged that the police have inhumanely treated the four LGBT members during the interrogation.

It is worth mentioning here that on the night of January 8, on the way back from the dance program at the Sonartari hotel in the capital, Battala police arrested the four LGBT members and brought them to the women's police station. The police harassed them, alleging that they were men walking around the streets in women's clothing. The police even took off their clothes inside the police station to check if they were really women. The next day, the four  LGBT members were released from the police station.  After get released from the police station the allegedly  victim's 4 LGBT  members were lodged a written complaint against the accused police personnel  and the journalists. But the police authority have been trying to cover up the indecent  from the very beginning as nothing has happened without taking action against the culprits.
