TTAADC elections deferred due to Covid-19 scare

Agartala, Mar 26 : The election to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council has been deferred for indefinite period keeping in mind of pandemic situation arising out of Covid-19.

"Keeping all aspects in mind of impending alarming and pandemic situation, the state government has decided to differ elections of TTAADC until further notification", said N. Darlong, the Secretary of Tribal Welfare issued here today.

In the notification, it was said the situation is indeed grim with nationwide lockdown curfew for 21 has been declared by the Central government to prevent spread of Covid-19. Besides, the Epidemic Disease Act and the Disaster Management Act have imposed to maintain social distance. "A fresh notification will be notified in due course of time", it said.

As per the schedule, the elections of TTAADC will have to take place by May 17 as the present Council's tenure is scheduled to get completed within the period. Now, it is to be seen the thing unfolds in the days to come.  With today's decision, the preparation of final electoral rolls has been stopped.
