Single day highest spike, 1168 persons tested positive with 3 more deaths

Breaking all previous record, the ongoing Covid-19 surge on Sunday has
recorded the highest ever single day spike of Covid-19 cases with 1,168
positive cases along with three more deaths due to Covid infection.
Amidst clear signs and indication of stage 3A that marks of
local community transmission, especially in Agartala Municipal Corporation
(AMC) areas, which has witnessing the spike of Covid cases during past one week
has again on Sunday recorded positivity
rate of 28.31 %, which is also single day highest positivity rate.
While, the worries of the government have been deepening as
Tripura witnessing daily record spike as by the fact that the Omicron variant
of Covid is extremely infectious though the fatality rate is relatively low.
Official sources said that with a surge in the Covid-19
cases, the state government will take more diverse measures and curb on
gatherings to control the spread of the infection from Monday with imposition
of more restrictions in AMC areas.
Meanwhile, again on Sunday, the overall Covid positivity
rate has jumped to 13.35 % with registering the fresh cases of Covid-19 to
1,168, which was registered 9.49 per
cent (Saturday) with 546 positive cases.
With the detection of 1,168 positive cases on Sunday, now the
total active cases of the state have now started increasing and now stood at 5,106 including patients in home isolation
and the COVID deaths toll now increased at 835 figures with a fatality rate of
0.92 %.
With a concern note, among the 1,168 positive cases, 575
people were tested positive from West Tripura district including from Agartala
Municipal Corporation (AMC) areas, which has registered positivity rate of
28.31 %. Altogether 717 persons were tested in AMC areas, among them 203
persons were tested positive, which contributed to the positivity rate of 28.31
%.
The Health department sources said that with the increase in
sample testing, the number of positive cases is also increasing and during past
24-hours, altogether 8,752 swap samples were tested through RT-PCR and Rapid
Antigen Test (RAT).
So far the Health department has not found any Omicron
cases, but suspected that there may be many cases of Omicron variant due to
sudden surge of positive cases during the past one week.
Among positive cases detected in the past 24-hours, 86
persons from Sepahijala tested positive, 26 from Khowai district, 86 from
Gomati, 71 from South Tripura, 100 from Dhalai, 136 from Unakoti district and
88 more cases from North Tripura district.
With the detection of 1168 positive cases on Sunday, now the
total active cases of the state have now started increasing and now stood at 5,106 including patients in home
isolation and the COVID deaths toll now increased at 835 figures with a
fatality rate of 0.92 % after fresh three more deaths in past 24-hours. As of
Sunday, 191 of the Covid positive persons have recovered from their infections.
