Pradyot in search of a role , trying to emerge as catalyst for regional politics by mobilizing tribals

Agartala  January 13 ,2020 : Royal scion Pradyot Kishore , proponent of now oft-quoted 'Pula Jati, Ola Party' slogan , is trying to emerge as the catalyst for regional politics and unity in the state by mobilizing the common tribal masses. His successful show of strength through a massive rally in Khumlung, headquarter of ADC, on last Friday-albeit with friendly support from regional parties-proved the point. Having impulsively resigned from the post of PCC president last year on a petty issue, Pradyot perhaps realized that his ascendancy to political power lies through indigenous roots and its support and this explains his trenchant stand over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The CAA , like all other ADCs of northeast, has kept out of purview the ADC in Tripura ADC also which encompasses close to 70% of the state's geographical territory and is beyond the reach of any non-indigenous occupational drive by right of purchase or otherwise. Hence much of the fear-mongering over the CAA  is misplaced; moreover,  CAA's durational scope in absolute terms is till December 31 2014 , it is never an endless process. With these facts having clearly come out by now the regional leadership being mobilized by Pradyot need to properly weigh the pros and cons of espousing the issue.

The moot point lies elsewhere : the upcoming ADC election and the bid for power. Bidding farewell to Congress Pradyot realizes that the passport to his political power lies through the ADC election route. Among the plethora of regional political parties IPFT, with its love-hate alliance with the BJP, is relatively comfortably placed but other parties including the once-formidable INPT are in a state of disarray. Pradyot seems to be working to bring together the non-IPFT regional parties for challenging the BJP-IPFT in the polls. Cushioned by his dynastic dividend and image Pradyot seems to have created a ripple but his aim may materialize only in case theh imponderables of electoral politics including the residual support base of CPI (M) are taken care of . In the Friday rally Pradyot, of course, made a sincere effort to plead for fair and friendly relations with the majority non-indigenous section of people. To what extent he can retain the momentum generated by his Friday rally in all respects however remains to be seen as the crucial battle of ballots draw closer.
