Politics in a flux : influx and exodus continue in different parts of the state

By Our Correspondent

Agartala December 02 ,2019 : Even though only twenty months have passed since the BJP-IPFT government came to power , politics in Tripura still seems to be in a state of flux with regular desertion from existing parties and joining of ranks in rival formations. This was reflected in the desertion of 72 voters belonging to 14 families in Teliamura and their joining of Congress. The desertion and joining took place in Teliamura in a meeting organized by the Teliamura block Congress committee yesterday.

Addressing the desertion and joining programme the convener of PCC's ad hoc committee Subal Bhowmik said that people of the state were reeling under a massive socio-economic crisis and utter lawlessness under the twenty months misrule of the BJP led government. All the new entrants to Congress had earlier joined BJP with high hopes before the assembly elections last year and joined Congress again out of sheer frustration. Addressing them Subal said that the CPI (M) led left front had reduced Tripura to the state of a desert and now BJP was putting finishing touches to the destruction of the socio-economic and cultural fabric of the state.

However, the reverse happened in Pravapur ADC village under Golaghati (ST) assembly constituency in Bishalgarh subdivision yesterday. Altogether 105 voters owing allegiance to CPI (M), IPFT and INPT joined BJP en masse in a meeting . In the presence of MLA of Golaghati Birendra Debbarma these voters parted company with their respective parties and joined BJP en masse by accepting the party flag from MLA Birendra Debbarma. Addressing the newcomers as well as the partymen present in the meeting MLA Birendra Kishroe Debbarma said that Tripura was moving ahead fast with 'double engine' governments in state and centre and now the same should be extended to ADC also . With BJP's advent in power in ADC the district council will witness real growth and development of the indigenous people.
