Police claimed civic vote was by and large peaceful, No incidents other then at Agartala and Melaghar, total arrested 98 persons

The Election for 14 Urban Local Bodies in the state has been conducted today in 644 booths across the state was by and large peaceful, according to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (L/o) of Tripura Police. As per the press release issued by the police head quarter, except for some stray incidents at Agartala and Melaghar no major incident has been reported from any part of the state. The electors have exercised their franchise freely. One polling agent of AITMC party was hurt in an incident near Acharya Prafulla Chandra School under NCC PS at about 0800 hours in which two persons have been detained. A case is being registered in this regard. In another incident at Melaghar, candidate of CPIM for Ward No - 4 has alleged that he was assaulted and moved out of the booth by a group of BJP supporters at around 1100 hours of 25.11.2021. This refers to Melaghar PS case No. 77/ 2021 u/s 325/ 34 IPC against 5 FIR named accused persons and unknown others. The case is under investigation. At booth No. 9 of AMC Ward No 8. Indranagar High School under NCC PS and Ward No 5 of Sonamura Nagar Panchayat at NCI School some miscreants tried to damage the EVM for which voting was suspended for some time. Timely intervention of civil authorities ensured resumption of voting process. There were some complaints related to alleged obstructions/ threatening to the voters, candidates, polling agents, which were resolved by police through timely intervention.

During the day, Supreme Court of India passed order in connection with contempt petition - 884 of 2021 relating to the Tripura Urban Local Body Election directing the authorities to augment the security of the polling booths by utilizing the 02 companies of BSF provided by the MHA on 24.11.2021. Accordingly, the troops had been used in 32 polling booths under AMC area as identified by the DM, West. Two more companies of CRPF have been drafted by the MHA and these are expected to reach from Assam by 26.11.2021 which will be utilised in the remaining phases of election process.
As per the press release issued by the police head quarter, the police has arrested 98 persons (Outsiders 41, supporters of AITMC - 32 and supporters of CPIM - 25) from AMC area under preventive sections of law for attempt of breach of peace. Subsequently, they all were released in the afternoon. The overall situation is peaceful. Adequate security arrangements are being made by Tripura Police to ensure peace prior to and during counting process, the police press release also said.
