Despite tall talks of the power department and much-vaunted pre-puja maintenance massive power failure in different parts of the state last night marred 'Puja' festivity besides creating serious problems for people all through last night. There were three consecutive power cuts in entire Bardowali area between 9-00 PM and 12-30 PM while the entire 'Madhyapara' locality in north Badharghat plunged into darkness at 11-30 in the night because of power outage caused by ostensible trouble in a transformer and power is yet to return to the large and sprawling area.

Despite being repeatedly contacted the fault repairing team of TSECL expressed their helplessness, citing need for replacement or repairing of transformer and people continue to sweat and gasp in the sultry October heat. Sources from Udaipur said that a similar and massive power outage occurred in entire Udaipur town and its outlying areas last night that plunged the town as well as affected areas in darkness. Naturally people could not enjoy the 'Puja' festivity . Till latest reports came in this morning the power failure continues to haunt people.

Besides , several other subdivisional areas of the state including Gandacherra also reported massive power failures to the consternation and suffering of people. Sources in the power department could not be contacted for response to the massive crisis. The power minister Jishnu Debbarma , as always , is beyond reach of people and media persons and could not be contacted. Senior officials in the power department said that earlier during the long left front regime the state's power department used to have an understanding with other northeastern states for uninterrupted additional power supply during 'Durga Puja' in exchange for return benefit to the Christian dominated states during Christmas. But this practice has stopped over the past three and years even for emergencies as was witnessed last night.
