By Our Correspondent

Agartala August 12, 2019 : In the worst power supply disruption across the state and , mopre particularly at Agartala, people suffered immensely and there were midnight demonstrations in front of West Agartala police station following the arrest of four persons from the Pragati Road area. The whole town was affected by power supply disruption at short intervals all through the day while the situation took a turn for the worse at night . From 10-30 onwards the situation started becoming normal but still in the midnight again there were disruptions in many areas.

Giving details of the situation sources in the power department said that in many areas of Agartala yesterday traditional 'pre-puja' maintenance work on the basis of 'feeders'  was taken up and the work made progress but when the supply resumed many feeders in Rampur, Pragati Road, IGM Chowmuhuni,Jay Nagar, G.B Bazar, 79 tilla, Bardowali could not sustain the heavy load of power transmitted and developed problems. The linemen and other staff were too few and under too much threat to sort out the problems of technical faults. To worsen matters , the underground cable connecting Bardowali and 79 tilla got disrupted.

What worsened the problem was organized attacks on linemen and support staff in different areas like Bardowali , Pragati Road , IGM Road, etc even though they were trying hard to repair the lines and connections. Most of the deputy general managers (DGMs) were absent as they had gone on holidays. The police was forced to arrest four errant youths who had assaulted the overworked linemen. The 133 KV lines in the Adarsha Colony area in Pratapgarh had also developed a problem. Besides, the sub-call centres spread across the state had not responded to calls of consumers seeking help even though the main call-centre was operational all through the night.

Sources in TSECL CMD M.S.Kele held a meeting with officials of the department and told all deputy chief managers (DCM) to remain ready to respond to emergency calls for help at the time of a major crisis. He pointed out that the power crisis was spinning out of control and strong measures needed to be taken to correct the situation as it directly affects the interests of the people and cause them suffering.
