Agartala, November 7, 2019: In his scathing attack on the "oppression" on former PWD minister and deputy leader of opposition Badal Chaudhury on alleged PWD scam case, opposition leader Manik Sarkar strongly the condemned the role of the state government and claimed it ‘political vindictiveness’ on opposition to suppress their voices.

Addressing a huge gathering of CPI (M) workers and leaders at Agartala town hall on Thursday evening during the celebration of 102nd anniversary of 'Great November Movement', former Chief Minister described the then ground realities and infrastructural development steps by Left Front government in 2008. Sarkar said that massive construction and infrastructural developmental works had been done with the help of major construction agencies and PSUs of the country with little bit of higher rate in comparison to state’s own rate on PWD works because reputed agencies were not agreeable to working at rate of state PWD.

"The centre allotted funds for infrastructural development of the state and as per allocated funds  projects prepared by PWD was placed in the state cabinet and subsequently the state government also gave its green signal for these developmental works", said Sarkar.

He said that these major construction works were done in the 2008, but in the 2019, the present state government due to their political vendetta started harassing Badal Chaudhury despite his cooperation with the investigative team on alleged case.

Expressing his resentment over the act of police and state government towards Badal Chaudhury during police custody, Sarkar said that he does not have any word to criticize such barbaric and inhuman act. He also slammed police and hospital authorities for the misbehavior with Badal Chaudhury’s wife.

During long political career as MLA, MP and minister for 20 years, can anyone stigmatize Badal Chaudhury.  'Badal Chaudhury was the prime member of all collective works of Left Front governments', said Sarkar and claimed that by such oppressive politics, the present BJP led state government will not be able to contain Communists.

He also slammed the state government for their ‘inhuman’ act on Bru refugees, sheltered in six relief camps in Kanchanpur subdivision by stopping the food and relief materials supply to the inmates for last seven consecutive days and forced them passing the days in starvation.
