Agartala August 13 ,2019 : For the first time since donning the mantle of leader of the opposition former chief minister Manik Sarkar has batted for accommodation of helpless 10,323 teachers in non-teaching posts recently cleared by the division bench of supreme court in its order passed on August 2. Speaking to a gathering of Tribal Youth Federation , a front organization of the CPI (M), in Agartala Town Hall yesterday Sarkar said that there had been no corruption in the recruitment of 10,323 teachers and the entire process had been done in a transparent manner , fully honouring the reservation formula in force in the state . 'May be our accent on poverty or need was interpreted by the high court as undue reservation but it was merely a weightage point warranted by the preamble to the constitution and Articles 37 and 38 ; however the high court had a right to interpret this in their own way and we had to accept but we had also created 12 thousand non-teaching posts in keeping with our power under Article 309 of the constitution and this now stands cleared by the apex court' said Manik.

He asserted that if the present government is keen to protect the livelihood of so many teachers , they can easily accommodate them in the 12 thousand non-teaching posts sanctioned by the supreme court. 'The loss of livelihood of so many people at a time with their families will create a critical situation in the state and a socio-economic crisis ; hence the state government should consider the matter sympathetically and with compassion ; I believe all options have not yet been closed' said Manik . Yesterday's meeting in Agartala Town Hall was well attended and the hall was jampacked.
