The 'Justice for 10,323', an affiliate of the Joint Movement Committee (JMC) that spearheaded the protracted fifty one day old sit-in strike in Paradise Chaumuhuni in December-January, has decided to launch an indefinite relay hunger strike in Khwamlwang, headquarter of ADC from March 5. Gradually the relay hunger strike programme will be held in other areas also.
A decision in this regard was taken by the central committee of the 'Justice for 10,323' in a meeting held in the state Red Cross headquarter yesterday. The meeting was attended by convener Prashanta Debbarma, Joint convener Ajay Debbarma and Gautam Debbarma and others. It was explained by the leadership to media that the JMC's petition in high court seeking permission for holding their organizational programmes is pending in high court and will come up for hearing on March 1.
They said that despite promises made in the vision document and by the chief minister the state government has not fulfilled any of the commitments to the retrenched 10,323 teachers. "This has created a crisis of existence for the retrenched teachers and eighty five of them have died or committed suicide ; this situation can not go on as the state government is also backing out of its solemn commitment given in affidavit to the supreme court" said Ajay Debbarma, convener of 'Justice for 10,323'. He asserted that the 10,323 teachers had been recruited from all over the state and they will mobilize public opinion across the state by holding programme of relay hunger strike.
