Jiten bats for 'humanitarian' treatment of 10,323 ad hoc teachers

By Our Correspondent

Agartala January 14 ,2020 : As the D-day for doomed 10,323 teachers draws close on March 31, opposition political parties have started speaking out in their favour. Yesterday former minister, CPI (M) MP and GMP president Jiten Chowdhury appealed to the state government to resolve the job-related issue of 10,323 ad hoc teachers on a 'humanitarian' outlook and save their livelihood. " I am making this appeal because before coming to power the BJP had promised to resolve the question of 10,323 teachers on humanitarian ground ; now they should keep their commitments" said Jiten.

He was speaking to the media , accompanied by GMP general secretary Radha Charan  Debbarma and senior tribal leader of CPI (M) Naresh Jamatya. Jiten said that while giving the jobs to 10,323 teachers in three phases in 2010 and 2014-2015 the left front government had scrupulously followed the prevalent reservation formula of the state , giving proper representation to the scheduled castes, scheduled tribes , OBCs as well as minorities. "In a state marred by acute poverty, insurgency problem and ethnic contradictions en masse loss of so many jobs will be disastrous ; hence the state government must do something to save the jobs" said Jiten.

He also outlined a detailed programme of agitation by the GMP in the coming days to press for a eighteen point programme. The eight day programme will come off between January 18-25 and a central  rally will come off at Agartala on February 8.
