Important data bank for LSDG in Tripura: Dr. Subhrabaran Das

There was a discussion  on 'Issues and Challenges of Localising SDGs in Tripura' and it was pointed out that the lack of data in Tripura is the main issue and impediment for research activities in this area.

The programme was organized by North Eastern Training, Research and Advocacy Foundation (NETRA) and  Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) that joined hands to organize a series of Webinars programme on 'Localising Sustainable Development Goals(LSDG): Perspectives from North East India' with United Nation Development Programme (UNDP), Jindal School of Government and Public Policy, OP Jindal Global University and Centre for the Sustainable Development Goals, Govt. of Assam as knowledge partners.

The topic 'Initiative Taken by the State Government towards Localisation of SDGs in Tripura' was discussed by the A.K. Chanda Joint Director, Planning (Economics & Statistics) Department,Government of Tripura. Dr. V.T. Dralong, Vice-Chancellor,Martin Luther Christian University, Meghalaya  discussed on ‘Inclusive Development and Localising SDGs in Tripura’.

The issue which is very important 'Gender Issues related to Localisation of SDGs in Tripura' was properly discussed by Prof. ChandrikaBasuMajumder,Dean, Faculty of Arts & Commerce,Tripura University (A Central University). Dr. Jayanta Choudhury, Associate Professor, NIRDPR-NERC said the main issues that three types of legal frame of Local Government exist here in Tripura. He also said, "Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) is considered as a non-council area which is constituted under 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act 1992. Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) constituted under the provision of 6th Schedule (part II) for the betterment of above 31 per cent tribal population in rural Tripura. The Urban Local Self Government in Tripura namely Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayats constituted under 74th Constitutional Amendment Act 1992".

Dr. Subhrabaran Das, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Tripura University & Member, NETRA Foundation and has said in his Moderator's Comment that it is the very challenging to get the data and it is important to focus on data bank for the important analysis.
