IPFT to press for separate block to highlight separate identity , pre-empt poaching

By Our Correspondent

Agartala August 12 ,2019 : The regional IPFT, partner in the state's coalition government, will press for a separate block of eight seats for the party in the upcoming monsoon cum autumn session of the state assembly. 'We have already addressed a letter to the honourable speaker , signed by all eight MLAs ; hopefully he will allot the seats but before the session begins we will insist on a separate block of seats being allotted to IPFT even though we continue to be part of the coalition and shall remain so' said a senior leader of the IPFT.

Explaining the rationale of the decision the IPFT leader said that his party had 'learned a lot and unlearned a lot more' from the unseemly events of poaching of MLAs by BJP in Karnataka, Goa  recently and earlier in Manipur . 'We have objective reasons to believe that BJP is consciously trying to weaken our fold and poaching of MLAs can not be ruled out, so this is only a precautionary measure' said the senior IPFT leader.
He clearly stated that even though IPFT was in the coalition , the way the government is running does not give the impression that it is a coalition as everything is arbitrary and unilateral . 'We know that a point of crisis will be reached ahead of the upcoming ADC elections over seat sharing etc but we are ready with our options ; INPT is already virtually non-existent and CPI (M) at the lower level is too scared and crestfallen to emerge as contenders ; their deeply depleted vote banks will come to us ' said the leader . He added that IPFT also has a standing offer from the Congress for an alliance as the PCC president Pradyot Kishore himself called at the residence of party president Narendra Chandra Debbarma , offering the hand of friendship. 'Unless the BJP realizes that what happened in Panchayats and Loksabha can not be replicated in ADC polls, a broad based alliance with IPFT dictating terms may emerge though it may complicate matters.

"Actually the state BJP leaders do not understand the vital question of nationality and the dictum that 'poverty breeds discontent but political frustration and thwarted nationalism transform that discontent into unsavoury and undemocratic manifestations" said the IPFT leader.
