Agartala, August 14, 2019: Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INFT), a tribal based party of the state, has decided to press for NRC in Tripura in the line of Assam to safeguard the interest of indigenous people.

Party's president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl and general secretary Jagadish Debbarma would leave the state for Delhi on August 21 to meet officials of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

"In course of meeting, we will make them understand why NRC exercise is needed in Tripura like Assam. We hope, the officials will give us a positive assurance", said Debbbarma here on Wednesday.

He further said, the party would also raise the issue of empowerment of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in the meeting with MHA officials.

Apart from meeting with MHA officials, party leaders would remain present in the Supreme Court to witness the hearing a writ petition seeking NRC in Tripura. The petition, which is scheduled to be heard by the apex court on August 23, was filed by Ms Patal Kayna Tripura, a leader of Tripura Peoples’ Party (TPP).
