By Our Correspondent

Agartala, December 03, 2019 : Holding Gram Samsad is a mandatory provision of the panchayat Act but it is not being held in any part of the state for quite a long time. As per the provision the Gram Samsad is suppose to be held within three months after the end of the financial year.

Gram Samsad is the place where the Panchayat body is supposed to submit written account of receives and expenditure of money. These include funds received under various project, through finance commission and own sources.

There are certain rules for calling Gram Samsad. These are issuing notification, organizing proper campaigning and ensure that majority of the villagers attended the samsad. Each panchayat have an allocation of Rs 5,000 for printing of accounts and organizing the Gram Samsad.

It is learnt that Gram Samsad could not be organized in most of the panchayat in 2017-18 as it was the election year. This year also a substantial time lapsed due to organizing panchayat election etc.

Now demand is being raised in different parts of the state to organize Gram Samsad as it is the only place where the people can know about what was the allocation of the panchayat and how it was spent. The can accept or reject it.
