Agartala March 26,2020 : The print media in the state has ceased publication from yesterday because of the Coronavirus related lockdown and harassment hawkers by people and police but the uncertainty over resumption of publication still looms large. In the advisory issued by Centre it is clearly mentioned that state governments must ensure full support to the print and electronics media so that they can continue their work unhindered.

Possibly keeping this in view the education minister Ratan Lal Nath today spoke to the TNS president and Editor-proprietor of 'Syandan Patrika' Subal Dey and requested him to restart publication of news dailies in the state , promising support. According to Subal Dey the minister had promised to make available three government vehicles for carrying newspaper packets up to Dharmanagar, Simna in Mohanpur subdivision and Sabroom and Amarpur in south and Gomati districts. But Subal Dey thanked the minister and said that unless the fear of hawkers was removed and the fear psychosis over Corona attack lessened they would not be able to make a firm commitment on resuming publication of the newspapers in the state.

The authority of 'Dainik Sambad', state’s largest circulated local daily also suspended publication from yesterday . They are not also thinking of resuming publication of the newspaper anytime soon. In a good gesture the 'Dainik Sambad' authority lend a helping hand to Corona fighters . The employees including journalists of 'Dainik Sambad' today distributed drinking water and biscuits all over the town among police personnel and government employees who have doing duties during the Corona lockdown. Besides, the chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb yesterday himself prepared food and sent them in packets to police personnel in different police stations all over the state. The food includes 'Paratha' and vegetables . Apart from this, 'Bangali Chhatra Juba Samaj' , a front organization of social activists, yesterday and today distributed food among the hapless people roaming the streets without any means of livelihood . More than four hundred packets of food were distributed among helpless people by thenm by moving on a vehicle .

In addition, "More than four hundred people have been given food today at Agartala because  they do not have any other means of having food ; this has been organized by the department of urban development department and this has commenced not only in AMC but also in Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats and the initiative will continue" said Kiran Gittye , secretary of the urban development department.
