Fresh Kew pineapples, lemons landed Dubai

Agartala, August 12, 2019: Altogether 17 metric tons consignment of Kew Pineapples and scented lemon have reached its destination in Dubai in very good conditions, which was flagged off by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on July 22nd last from Kumarghat.

Concrete efforts from state government, the state's Kew pineapple and lemon have reached Dubai for the first time through a new medium of transportation, which has been adopted by state government for fresh delivery of kew pineapples and scented lemons.

Sources said that both exporters and importers of Dubai are delighted after receiving the consignment in complete fresh conditions, which is big achievement of the state government towards doubling the farmers’ income.

On July 22 last after queen pineapples, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb flagged off a consignment of 17 MT kew pineapples loaded in a hi-tech truck to Dubai during a flagged off programme held at Kumarghat.

Official sources said that this year, the production of pineapples have also increased at about 25 % high compared to last year, now the state government is planning to increase production of pineapple from 1.2 lakh MT to 3 lakh MT in next couple of years. Along with pineapples, the state has also exported high quality scented lemons to Dubai during the same programme.

After reaching Mumbai, these pineapples were shipped and arrived in Dubai on August 7th. Both the importers and exporters were ecstatic about the delivery of fresh fruits.

However, official sources said that Chief Minister was delighted when he received the first picture of the pineapples from Dubai. He said, government's initiative to protect the state's pineapple farmers from loss and to popularize the state's pineapple in both international and national markets has been successful today. The Chief Minister congratulated all the officials and the people of Tripura  for the success of the initiative. Due to this success, now state government will take initiative to export more pineapples in coming days, he added. In this way, the pineapple farmers of the state will be further encouraged to cultivate pineapple.

It may be mentioned here that the  state's sweet pineapples which used to be sold at the price of Rs.5  per piece in the market , the state government has now marketed in Rs.13 and sent it to Dubai through Mumbai port. Despite this long route, the fruits were in good condition.
