Four foreign ATM hackers to be produced before an Agartala court on Dec 6

Agartala, December 3, 2019: Four ATM hackers including two Turkish and Bangladeshi fraudsters involved with massive ATMs hacking network in Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kolkata and in Agartala over the past few months, who were arrested from Kolkata in the wee hours of November 19 last based on inputs of Cyber Crime branch of Tripura police would be produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Agartala on December 6th next.

The Cyber Crime branch of Tripura police, who are investigating the two cases in Agartala and other parts of the state has appealed for production of arrested four foreign cybercriminals were identified as Hakan Zanburkan, Fettah Aldemir, both Turkish Nationals and Mohammad Hannan and Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, both are Bangladesh nationals are presently in Barrackpur jail in Kolkata after their 10 days police custody.

Additional public prosecutor (APP) Bidyut Sutradhar said the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case has appealed for production warrant for interrogation of arrested four foreign nationals involved with looting of crores of amount through ATM hacking. After hearing on the case, the CJP ordered the authorities of Barrackpur jail to produce them before court in Agartala on December 6th next.

It may be recalled here that based on the inputs of Tripura police, Kolkata police arrested these criminals from Belgharia area of Kolkata (under North 24 Parganas district) on November 19 last.

The breakthrough to arrest the gang of ATM fraudsters who hacked many ATMs over the past few months were possible after coordination of both state police and police also recovered large amount of Indian currency, US Dollars and several electronic gadgets from their possessions. During the raid a total of 33,000 US Dollars and 32 lakh amount of Indian currency were recovered from their possession.

After Assam, suspected cybercriminals from Turkey have stolen huge amounts of cash from ATMs through ATM-cloning devices installed in four ATM counters in Agartala, said police. Over 60 bank customers of different banks mostly State Bank of India (SBI) during mid part of November lost lakhs of rupees due to the fraudulent acts of the cybercriminals and ATM hackers.

The SBI branches in Agartala have so far received complaints from 45 customers that they lost their money due to the ATM hacking.  SBI has also blocked around 10,000 ATM and debit cards of its customers as precautionary measures.
