Agartala, Aug 1: Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath today congratulated those students who have bagged top-ten merit list in three categories- Science, Arts and Commerce in the HS results-2020. Side by side, he also thanked the students who have passed the HS examinations.

While speaking to the media at the Civil Secretariat, the Minister said the overall pass percentage in this year's HS results is the highest in the last four years with 80.80 percent. "The results in ADC areas have been good with 70.69 pass percentage. Besides, overall pass percentage among the ST and SC students is good compared to the previous four years", he said.

Nath lauded the girl students success in the HS examinations. "In the Madhyamik examination, the boys did well while girls have stolen the attraction in the HS results. This is indeed a good sign for the state".

The Minister also whole heartedly welcomed the new National Education Policy (NEP)- 2020. Nath said under the new policy, students could study up to standard V in his/her mother tongue or local language and English will no longer be a compulsory subject. "Computer education will be part of the curriculum from standard VI. It also proposes introduction of vocational subjects and Sanskrit is being made an additional subject for the students", he said.

He further added, "The significant aspect of the new national education policy is bringing parity in fee fixation. Earlier, if a student scores poorly in HS examination, he or she gets trouble to secure admission in a college. Under the new policy, a common test will be conducted for the students aspiring to get admitted in a college. And, the admission will be based on the marks of both board examination and common test".
