In a belated realization spawned by unimpeachable facts and records the director of secondary education Uttam Kumar Chakma yesterday made a frank admission that en masse dismissal of all 10,323 teachers on the basis of wrong interpretation of high court judgment of May 7 2014 and March 29 2017 had been a grave error. He made the admission to a delegation of Joint Movement Committee (JMC) leading the continuing 37 day of sit-in strike by the 10,323 teachers for jobs.
A five member delegation of JMC comprising Bijay Krishna Saha, Bimal Saha, Ajay Debbarma, Kishore Debbarma, Amulya Debbarma had gone to meet the director of secondary education and held a long discussion with him. At the end of the discussion the director Uttam Kumar Chakma admitted that the en masse dismissal of all 10,323 teachers on the basis of wrong interpretation of court orders had been wrong. The five member-delegation said this while addressing their colleagues sitting in 'Dharna' in Paradise Chaumuhuni. They said that the concerned officials have now realized that they now made a mistake and it is time now to correct the mistake made by giving back jobs to the teachers. They said that fresh discussion will take place on Wednesday-that is today-in presence of the education secretary Saumya Gupta and law secretary Biswajit Palit. "There seems to be now a dim light at the end of the tunnel , since the seniormost officers have admitted the error it is now for the government to correct the same" said Bijay Krishna Saha.
Long before the sit-in strike of the 10,323 teachers had begun the state government had constituted a one-man committee led by former law secretary Gautam Debnath to go into the background of appointment of 10,323 teachers by the previous left front government and find out the errors. It appears that officers meeting the leaders of striking teachers is part of the exercise of inquiry.
