Cases of political murders during left regime to be reopened soon, CM Dr Manik Saha

Apparently in response to scathing criticism of the opposition CPI (M) about the allegedly fragile law and order situation in the state and their proposed agitation from October 2 on this and other issues, the chief minister Dr Manik Saha has asserted that the unresolved cases of political murders during the left front’s long regime will be reopened. The chief minister was speaking in a programme on the occasion of the opening of BJP’s ‘Mandal’ office in Ram Nagar assembly constituency.
He said that during the long left rule at least four elected representatives including a cabinet minister had been killed either by left-sponsored killer squads or by  banned militants in the case of health minister Bimal Sinha. “We know very well how the former BJP state president Shyamhari Sharma was murdered in a public place by whom and how, how former MLA Madhusudan alias Bhola Saha had been murdered and how SDM (Sadar) Sukhram Debbarma had been shot dead in his office premise over and above the planned killing of public representatives like Makhan Sarkar and Atish Chowdhury; no case had been resolved during the left front rule; it is high time we reopened these case files” said the chief minister.
He added that at the time of counting of ballots of the 1993 election an opposition party worker Dilip Bhattacharjee had been murdered but not even a case was registered in this connection. “Such instances abound but the CPI (M) is trying to raise the bogey of law and order situation , many murders as a result of political conspiracy and mafia gang-war have not been resolved and we will reopen the files and trace out the killers including those guilty of the murder of fomer Youth Congress general secretary Debal Deb in the heart of Agartala town in 2004” said the chief minister.
He asserted that his government is sensitive about the law and order situation in the interest of peace and overall development. “Our priority is to ensure overall development of the state in an atmosphere of peace and harmony; this will continue and we will beat all the political conspiracies of the CPI (M) in association with the people of the state” said Manik. He also referred to the long series of achievements of the BJP government over the past six and half years and asserted that Tripura will soon emerge as a shining beacon of overall human development.
