CM welcomes 88 NLFT militants, urges misguided youths to join development process

Agartala, Aug 13 ,2019 :  Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday called upon the tribal youths, who are still pursuing the wrong path to join the development works spreading by the new government.

"Today's surrender of 88 militants of NLFT proves that the path they had adopted long ago was not the right. Now, the time has come for those who are still misguided should join hands to speed up development to make Shrestha Tripura", he said after welcoming the surrendered militants led by self styled leader Suren Debbarma at Chandraipara HS School in Ambassa's Dhalai district.

Dy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, MLP Rampada Jamatia and Addl Chief Secretary Kumar Alok remained present at the surrender ceremony.

Asserting that the present government is committed for welfare of indigenous people with the help of all section of people, the Chief Minister promised the government would fulfill all the conditions mentioned in the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) with the outlawed group. The MoS was inked in Delhi on August 10.  

Deb also remained the returnees to stick to the MoS for better implementation of the agreement leading to today’s important development in the state's vexed insurgency problem.

Hitting hard on the previous governments, he said if there was no need to have such a programme if the policy persuaded by the successive government from 1980 to 2005 was right. "They did not welfare of indigenous people. With Modji's slogan- Sabka Saath Sabka Vikash and Sabka Viswas, we want to boost socio-economic condition of Janajati (tribal) people", he said.

During the surrender, the surrendered insurgents deposited three Carbines, one Mortar, six SLR, four Chinese Rifles, 19 303 rifles.
