In yet another calculated assault on CPI (M) leaders in Belonia subdivision a large gang of miscreants and mafia elements sheltered under the banner of ruling BJP today severely assaulted and inflicted injuries on deputy leader of the opposition and party central committee member Badal Chowdhury and  his party colleagues, former MLA Basudeb Majumder, Belonia subdivision committee secretary Tapas Dutta and subdivsional secretariat member Trilokesh Sinha. After initial treatment  in Belonia hospital Badal Chowdhury and his companions are  headed for Agartala for treatment of their injuries. The unprovoked assault has triggered serious reactions as in Agartala town the CPI (M) leaders and workers took out a protest demonstration. The police is yet to take any action in connection with the pre-planned attack.

Highly placed sources from the CPI (M) said that in order to attend a commemoration programme on Dhananjay Tripura, a tribal martyr of 'Kokborok' language movement who had been  shot dead by police on this day way back in 1975 the delegation of CPI (M) leaders had left by a vehicle for Sachirambari where there is a park named after martyr Dhananjay Tripura. On their way Badal Chowdhury and his fellow-leaders took a detour to Manirambari under Hrishyamukh police station in Belonia subdivision to offer floral tributes to a bust of Dhananjay Tripura. But around 11-30 AM when their vehicles stopped in the Manirambari market a large gang of BJP miscreants on motor-bikes stopped there and resorted to massive stone pelting to subvert the programme. They also shattered two vehicles that had carried the CPI (M) leaders and inflicted injuries on Badal, Basudeb, Tapas and Trilokesh before leaving the spot. Sources said that the CPI (M) leaders returned to Belonia and spoke to SP (south ) Kuwant Singh asking him why such a thing happened even after they had informed police of their programme. Kulwant who himself is a doctor suggested Badal Chowdhury to go to GBP hospital , Agartala for treatment of his head injuries while others were also initially treated in  Belonia hospital. Even though FIR was filed no action to arrest the BJP miscreants has as yet been taken. However, the original programme at Sachirambari is taking place with Jiten Chowdhury as the main speaker.

Speaking from Belonia CPI (M) leader Kripesh Paul said that the miscreants who attacked the vehicles carrying Badal Chowdhury and other CPI (M) leaders had actually attended a blood and garment distribution programme organized by the NGO run by Ms Niti Deb. "You know we in Tripura now have a new social activist who is originally a bank officer who runs an NGO and it was after ritually attending her programme in Muhuripur that the gems and pearls of BJP attacked our leaders on their way back home ; the people of the state are witnesses to everything and will give us justice" said Kripesh.

Meanwhile, the CPI (M) state committee in a statement has denounced the depredation of BJP's mafia elements in subverting their party programme and attacking senior leaders. The statement called for mass resistance to the 'goonery and thuggery' of BJP in the state . All four senior leaders of CPI (M) who sustained injuries in BJP attack are already in GBP hospital, according to latest information about the incident of attack.
