The BSF has achieved a major success in preventing women trafficking from Bangladesh across the border by rescuing 33 trafficked Bangladeshi women and arrested 29 traffickers who sold them to brothels in various parts of the country. According to sources in BSF (south Bengal frontier) the outfit had constituted an 'anti-human trafficking unit' on January 15 2021 with special responsibility for stopping trafficking of Bangladeshi men and women brought across the border by agents.
Sources said that during the past year 29 incidents of women trafficking have been caught and in this 33 Bangladeshi women-28 adults and 5 minors-have been rescued by the BSF. In these incidents 29 agents who traffic the women from their Bangladeshi counterparts have also been arrested . The DIG , south Bengal frontier of BSF Surjit Singh Guleria said that the Bangladeshi women belonging to very poor families are brought across the border by agents with temptation of giving them jobs in Beauty Parlours, Gyms , Hotels and restaurants, household duties. But soon after they cross over these women including minors are sold out to brothels for flesh trade. Many women die of diseases without treatment.
Guleria said that BSF will carry on its drive against the inhuman practice of women trafficking and death of women including minor girls . He said that the border with Bangladesh being porous it becomes difficult to plug it in its entirety but the BSF is determined to put a stop to this cruel practice which has become a regular feature over the past many years.
