The crucial BJP-IPFT meeting scheduled to come off this
evening to sort out the glitches in alliance for ADC election has been
postponed for a few days due to IPFT leadership's preoccupation with tomorrow's
rally of the new alliance of TIPRA, IPFT and INPT. It has been indicated by
both the parties that the meeting is likely to come off on 26th or
27th February to finalise issues pertaining to the ADC election.
Responding to queries from the media the IPFT assistant
general secretary and spokesperson Mangal Debbarma said that his party had
alliance with BJP, still has and will have. "For the past one year we have
been pressing the BJP's central leadership over the ADC election issue and
matters related to socio-economic and cultural development of the tribals but
neither the central BJP nor the state BJP has positively responded to our pleas
even though before the assembly election they had promised to cede large number
of ADC seats to us" said Mangal. He added that there was nothing in their
agreement with BJP that they can not have alliance with any other party.
Asked how they would support the 'Greater Twipraland' demand, Mangal said "our demand is Twipraland, the Greater Twipraland has never
been and will never be our demand". He asserted that IPFT's alliance with BJP
still stands, expressing the hope that all pending issues like their demand for
twenty two seats in the ADC election will be amicably settled.
