Attacks on journalists continue in Tripura, this time Shantirbazar, Assembly of Journalists condemns

Attacks on the media are now a common occurrence in Tripura like many other criminal incidents. It has been reported that another nasty incident of attack on  journalists has taken place in Shanti Bazaar. The day after four journalists were attacked in front of the East Agartala Women  Police Station premises in the capital Agartala On November 19, the journalist named Sujit Tripura was attacked in Birsinghpur Pati Chhari Murasingh under Shantirbazar subdivision.

It is reported that a fair was organized there on the initiative of Tripura Autonomus  District Council (TTADC).  The fair was inaugurated by Purnachandra Jamatia, Chief Executive Member, Tripura Autonomous  District Council. On his way back from covering the fair, miscreants launched a deadly attack on Sujit Tripura. Sujit Tripura is the Chief Editor of CHUMUI TV Channel. He is again the Treasurer of All Tripura Kokborok      Media Forum. A written complaint has already been lodged at Birchandra Manu's Mann Pathar police outpost against the miscreants and a delegation from the All Tripura Kokborok  Video Forum went to the Mann Pathar outpost today to investigate the allegation. From there, the delegation went to Shantir Bazar police station  OC Subrata Chakraborty and  demanded the arrest of the culprits. The delegation included Samir Debbarma, President of All Tripura Kokborok  Journalists Association, Shailen Kalai, Editor, Milton Debbarma, Executive Member, Gopal Debbarma, Sujit Tripura and other members of the All Tripura Kokborok  Media Forum.

The officer-in-charge of Shantirbazar police station said that they are busy for the upcoming civic bodies elections. Take necessary steps to identify and arrest the culprits after the election. In a state where attacks on journalists have become a tradition in recent times, it remains to be seen how effective the police will be in this regard. The Assembly of Journalists strongly condemned the incident. And demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits.
