Almost Community transmission in AMC: Single day highest 916 tested positive in past 24-hrs, CM attended virtual meeting with PM

Agartala, January 14, 2022: With clear signs and indication of stage 3A that marks of local community transmission, especially in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) areas, the state on Thursday recorded the highest ever single day spike of Covid-19 cases with 916 positive cases along with one more death due to Covid-19 infection. Now, the West Tripura district has emerged as new epicenter of Coronavirus infection in Tripura, which has already assumed the proportion of community transmission of the infection.

As the countrywide Covid situation worsening fast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday has chaired a high level virtual meeting with the Chief Minister Baiplab Kumar Deb. During the virtual meeting, Chief Minister along with top administrative officers of the state government has attended the meeting, which was also attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya.

The worries of the government have deepened by the fact that the Omicron variant of Covid is extremely infectious though the fatality rate is relatively low.  In view of the rapidly deteriorating situation all over the country the union health secretary Rajesh Bhusan during the has cautioned all the state governments including Tripura and all the union territories to take all precautionary measures to prevent any major outbreak of Covid, specially in its Omicron variant . Bushan has asked the governments of all states and union territories to take appropriate action to put in place larger number of beds, uninterrupted oxygen supply facilities, ICUs and other essential medicines and equipments needed for treatment of Covid patients.

Rajesh Bhusan has also informed the state and union territory governments that Centre is fully prepared to stand by the states during the crisis as and when it erupts but advised the governments to remain fully prepared. He also stressed on vaccination drive.

Official sources said that with a surge in the Covid-19 cases, the state government will take more diverse measures and curb on gatherings to control and curb the spread of the infection.

Meanwhile, again on Thursday , the overall Covid positivity rate has jumped to 9.10  % with registering the fresh cases of Covid-19 to 916, which was registered 9.18 per cent (Wednesday) with 783 positive cases.

With a concern note, among the 916 positive cases, 559 people were tested positive from West Tripura district including from Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) areas with 25.05 % of positivity rate. Altogether 1002 persons were tested in AMC areas, among them 251 persons were tested positive, which contributed to the positivity rate of 25.05 %. Among the positive cases detected in AMC, 133 positive persons have travel history and after testing of total 2487 travelers from the district

The Health department sources said that with the increase in sample testing, the number of positive cases is also increasing.

Sources also said that the majority of the positive cases were detected from travelers in airport and railway stations with travel history from Kolkata and New Delhi and few cases are also detected from the persons who are suffering from influenza-like symptoms.

Along with few other states of the country, Tripura is now continuously witnessing a surge in Covid positive cases with imposition and enforcement of compulsory wearing of masks, face cover in all public places, crowded areas including markets, in all workplaces, offices and during traveling, the government has also stressed for maintenance of Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB) with imposition of ‘Night Curfew’ from 9 PM to 5 AM and few other strict restrictions. But, a surge of Covid positive cases has reached new records in every passing day during the third wave of infection. However, if the situation continues like this, the government could order more restrictions across the state.

So far the Health department has not found any Omicron cases, but suspected that there may be many cases of Omicron variant due to sudden surge of positive cases during the past one week.
